What We Are All Thinking!

For my last blog I'm going to stir the pot a bit as well as kind of rant about this semester. I'm sure most of you guys have relate also. This blog is about all of the construction, closures, and all the problems that have come along with it this semester. Since my freshman year I knew that SRU was always working on something but this semester has taken that statement to a whole new level. Having only 1/4 of a library, parking lots shut down or gated off, Keister being shut down for most of the fall. It is getting quite annoying when they can build a whole new Dollar General, tear down the old one, and make that a new parking lot, before Keister, Bailey, or anything else for that matter can be finished. I know that some of these projects needed to happen and every project has setbacks in it's timeline but it is quite ridiculous that we don't have a library with bathrooms on the first floor or can use the library during the most important week of the year, being finals. With all that being said, hopefully things can get wrapped up over winter break and things could go back to somewhat normal around this campus because it's getting old. GET IT TOGETHER SRU!

p.s. the parking situation still sucks, freshman shouldn't have cars and we need a parking garage....

.. that is all.

Winter Break is Coming!

As the semester winds down I can't help but think about the 6 beautiful weeks of freedom. Although we are on break I still plan on doing plenty of things. I'll probably relax for a while at first, a well deserved couple days to just enjoy not having homework and then I'll start planning out my activities around my winter break work schedule. I'll be traveling to Cleveland, OH as well as my home town up near Clarion and possibly even Michigan to see an old friend. I'll also be enjoying the holidays. Christmas is my absolute favorite and always puts me in a great mood. But mostly I'm looking forward to getting back up on the mountain. Skiing and snowboarding has been a passion of mine since I was about 8 years old. I started on skis and eventually started snowboarding also around 12. My favorite resort is Holiday Valley in Ellicotville, New York, but I mostly just go to seven springs if I'm around here just to be close.

Stress Relief Techniques

In my last blog I was really focused on how much stress that will be upon me and probably most of us in the coming weeks before finals so I though I would share some of the things that I do in order to  blow off some steam in order to get my mind and body back in check so I can't keep getting work done. Number one for me, as well as most of us probably, is go to the gym. Getting away from all the paperwork and letting off some steam either by lifting, running, or playing a sport is definitely a way to forget about life for a while either by yourself or with friends. Don't underestimate the power of a good workout. Next would be taking part in whatever hobby you enjoy. Taking a moment to engage in something you truly enjoy will help bring your mind back into a positive state going back into your school work. This could be playing your favorite video game, listening to music, anything that you do just for enjoyment. Finally, use a reward system. As your working, set goals for yourself and have a reward ready when you do achieve that goal. And no this doesn't mean that for each word you type to get to have a piece of candy. Challenge yourself to make significant progress worthy of taking a break, getting a snack, or however you choose to reward yourself. It can be quite the motivational technique. This is what I do in order to help manage my stress and still get work done before finals. Feel free to comment on what you like to do to help manage stress.

Post Thanksgiving Stress

It was a great Thanksgiving break full of much-needed family time and great food. But now its a hard smack in the face back to reality to finish the next three weeks of the semester. I know everything that I should have probably put some time into over break is now piled up and there's no stopping the rest of the work from coming as well. And I'm sure most of you can relate to that. There is lots of assignments and tests that are still looming in the next two weeks that definitely have me frantic to finish it all on top of also working and other responsibilities. However, I know that we can stick this out, prioritize our time, and knock the next few weeks out before a well deserved winter break. So put in the work you but don't stress yourself out too much. We can do this!!
